Music Class for Big Kids

Eenie Meenie Music offers Rhythm Kids classes for kids 4-8 years old

In each weekly music class, we drum, sing, move, and play to rhythms inspired by musical traditions around the world, from West African Gahu, to Japanese Taiko, to Brazilian Samba, just to name a few. We often use drums, but Rhythm Kids is much more than a drumming class. Students learn to compose, choreograph, and conduct as they play—and play with!—a variety of musical instruments and movement props: West African djembe drums, percussion instruments, scarves, stretchy bands, and, the most important instruments of all, their voices and their bodies. As your big kid learns to think and create like a musician, they’ll also build musical connections to each other- and the global community. Classes include:

  • immersion in the musical language of many cultures

  • playful music games with rules

  • opportunities to lead, balanced with opportunities to collaborate

  • deep exposure to complex, fun, and rockin' music

  • many chances to solo, improvise, and work in ensembles

  • rich, creative experimentation and expression, improvisation, and innovation

Enrolled families will receive:

  • 9-10 weekly, 45-minute classes (depending on the semester)

  • Animal Collection CD, Songbook, and downloads of all the semester's songs

  • Access to online video tutorials and play-alongs

  • Access to online in-home activity pages

The KANGAROO Collection!

The Kangaroo Rhythm features drumming patterns inspired by the Australian didgeridoo. We'll learn a traditional song and "sit-down dance" from the Torres Strait Islanders called "Taba Naba"; and with "Hand in Hand," we'll explore body percussion and sing a three-part round. We'll jam and solo-sing to the reggae beat of "Every Day's a Good Day" and, of course, have lots of fun moving like "Krazy Kangarooz"! All 18 songs in this collection have been chosen and arranged specifically to support each student's music development.
